Our Little Princess

This week my sister Julie spent the night at our house. And cute little Josh just loves to be like his older sister Brooke. I guess this happens on a regular basis but he wanted to put on Brooke's night gown. It was pretty cute and Brooke would hug him and call him her little princess. It was so funny.

Jalapa's

Last night we went to a birthday party for our new little niece that was born on Easter. Her name is Rhianna and she is a beautiful little girl. Her parents are Mike’s brother and his wife, Sarah and Brad. Now, Sarah is from Morocco so we got to be part of the Muslim celebration. The tradition is that one week after the baby is born they sacrifice a lamb, give the new baby a name, and then they have a big party with all kinds of food and everyone wears the traditional Jalapa (I have no clue how to spell that) but it's a really fancy robe. When we got to the party they invited us upstairs to pick out a Jalapa that we got to wear for the evening. Ours aren't as fancy as the traditional ones for parties, but they were still fun to wear. We couldn't help but play around in them, as you can see. Mike pulled his hood over his head and pretended to be the grim reaper. It was so funny!

The Grim Reaper

All we are missing in this pic is Yoda, R2D2, and a light saber!

My Jalapa

This is the food we ate. There is some chicken, a cauliflower and cheese dish, a pea salad, and the traditional lamb with some spaghetti squash looking casserole. And it was really good!

Love/Hate Relationship

Sorry about the lack of posts over the past few months. I have been very occupied with this new love/hate relationship.... Running. I may look happy in the picture but deep down inside I am clenching my teeth. This was taken right before I ran in the Rex Lee 10K run about 2 weeks ago. For those of you who don't know, some of my friends have decided it would be "fun" to run a half marathon. So we are all training on our own and then we are going to meet in Salt Lake on April 19th to run the Salt Lake City half marathon. Running the 10K was part of my training and I'm happy to say I did it! I finished the race and I didn't do half bad. And I must say, I did feel pretty good after I was done running it. Hence the love hate relationship. I really don't like to run and I dread it every time, but when I'm done I feel so good! Plus, I burn a lot of calories doing it and that makes it worth it! (I kind of look like a retard in the picture so don't look at it for too long!)

Mr. Fix-It

Oh ya...and one more reason why I love Mike so much...he can fix anything!! Our fridge broke on Saturday morning and Mike fixed it! If you look closely you can see our food sitting out in the bushes!! We didn't know what to do with all of it so we hurried and buried it in the bushes outside our apartment.

Natural Born Skier!

That's Mike for you...a natural born skier! And I'm so relieved! On Friday me and Mike went up to Brighton and did the 2 for 1 night skiing. Basically I love to ski almost as much as I love Mike and when I fell in love with him, his inability to ski was a serious concern!! Almost a red flag! But my love for him outweighed skiing so I married him. But this whole time I have been so worried that he wouldn't like to ski or that he wouldn't be very good and on Friday night, all my doubts were put to rest. Mike was sooo good at skiing! We spent the evening on the bunny hill but seriously, after an hour of skiing he was ready for the real thing! Unfortunately, Brighton doesn't have any green runs that start right when you get off the lift so the bunny hill was all we did. So he started to learn how to do real turns instead of snow plow and he did so well!!! I am so proud of him and I can't wait for our many ski adventures to come!!

Airbags

Ok...so I know it's been about a month since I last updated this blog. Sorry to all of my faithful blog watchers...there really is no excuse except that I'm lazy. December was a great month, we had so much fun over the holiday's. We made the trek across the U.S. to Minnesota for Christmas and then to Denver for New Years. Christmas was so much fun, the best part was getting to know all of my in-laws a lot better! New Year's was also fun but a little less eventful. As some of you know, my family was in a head on collision 2 weeks before Christmas. Everyone was ok but Andrew broke his collar bone, fractured his sternum, and has several crushed vertebrae in his spine. He was the only one in the back seat without an airbag so that's why he suffered more injuries. My Dad lost his glasses, which if you know my Dad you know that was a Crisis all in itself. Luckily they have wonderful home teachers who helped my Dad get a new pair of glasses. My Mom is really sore and thinks she may have some broken ribs or something. But other than that, the family is doing great and we are really blessed things didn't turn out worse. We are all firm believers in airbags..that's for sure
